- Won the American League Rookie of the Year award in 1964.
- Led the league in batting in his rookie season (1964).
- Played in 8 straight All-Star games (64-71)
- Led the American League in batting average three times (1964, 65, 71).
- Won the Golden Glove Award in 1966.
- Had 28th career 4-plus hit game.
- Led the American League in doubles four times (64, 67, 69, 70)
- Led the American League in Hits five times (64, 65, 66, 69, 70)
- Was runner-up in the A.L MVP voting in 1965 and 1970.
- Was selected as Sporting News Player of the Year three times (1964, 1965, 1971).
- He was Minnesota's coach from 1976-78 and 1985-91.
- His No #6 was retired by the Minnesota Twins on July 14th, 1991
- Works as a hitting instructor in the Twins' minor league system and scouts for the club.
