De La Hoya says Hatton will beat Mayweather
December 4, 2007 --
Boxing legend, Oscar De La Hoya, who lost a close match against Floyd Mayweather Jr. recently is saying that he is picking Ricky Hatton to defeat Mayweather when they meet on Dec. 8th.Many has Hatton as a clear underdog but De La Hoya, now promoting this bout, believes the bookies are in for a surprise on December 8.
"A lot of people are backing Floyd but a lot of people are going to lose money." said De La Hoya.
De La Hoya has even given Ricky Hatton a blueprint on how to beat Floyd Mayweather.
"Ricky relies on speed and power while bringing intelligent pressure to the ring.
"Floyd relies solely on speed. That difference will make itself known when they fight.
"The difference with any fighter that Floyd has faced is that Hatton brings intelligent pressure and I think that's key. He not only comes forward and puts more pressure on you than I did, but he does it in a very intelligent way."
Hatton meanwhile said: "Oscar shared a ring with Mayweather and has given me bits of advice on what works and what does not work against him.
Veteran referee, Joe "firm but fair" Cortez will be the third man in the ring.

Diego Corrales dies in motorcycle accident
May 8, 2007 -- Former two-weight world champion Diego 'Chico' Corrales died Monday night after a high-speed motorcycle accident in Las Vegas.
The 29-year-old, who held world titles at super-featherweight and lightweight, will be remembered for his epic win against Jose Luis Castillo in 2005, when he dragged himself off the canvas to force a thrilling stoppage 10th-round victory. The fight was named by the Boxing Writers Association of America and numerous boxing publications as the fight of the year.
Corrales's promoter, Gary Shaw, explained that his fighter was driving his motorcycle at a high speed when he ran into the back of a car about 10 miles west of the Las Vegas Strip. "He's laying there as we speak with a helmet on his head under a sheet," Shaw said. "It appears he was thrown a great distance."
Shaw said Corrales, whose career had faltered in recent fights, had recently bought a racing motorcycle, which he was apparently riding at the time he was killed. "He fought recklessly and he lived recklessly," he said. "That was his style."
Las Vegas police spokesman Jose Montoya said the victim in the accident was wearing a helmet, and it was not known if drugs or alcohol was involved. "No tests have been done. We're still investigating," Montoya said.
Argentine, Angel Cabrera edges Tiger Woods to win US Open
June 18, 2007 -- Angel Cabrera edged superstar Tiger Woods and former champ Jim Furyk to win the 107th US Open golf championship, becoming the first Argentine to lift the coveted trophy.
He joined Roberto di Vicenzo, winner of the 1967 British Open at Hoylake, as the only Argentines to win one of golf's four major titles.
"It's very difficult to describe this moment," said Cabrera, who carded a one-under-par 69 and then could only watch on television as first Furyk and then Woods failed to better or match his five-over total of 285.
Furyk posted an even-par 70, while Woods settled for a two-over 72 to join his compatriot on 286, one shot ahead of Sweden's Niclas Fasth (70).
"Angel played a beautiful round of golf," Woods said. "He had some great golf shots and that's what you have to do. He went out there and put all the pressure on Jim and I and we fell one shot short."
