"We're (Team Vargas) not going to wait for the judges to give him (Trinidad) the victory like they did when he went up against Oscar De La Hoya. Every saint comes to his moment of truth, and his (Trinidad's) will be on Dec. 2. This will be the end of Trinidad." Eduardo Garcia Trainer of Fernando Vargas. Fernando Vargas: Tito doesn't know who he's messing with. November 17, 2000 -- They don't call him "The Ferocious One" for nothing. Out of the Vargas Camp, the trainers are saying that Fernando Vargas is in twice the condition than he was for his champion fight in 1998 against Yori Boy Campus. His extreme workout routine which contains many hours in the ring sparring with different fighters has taken him to a level, he's never been to "I'm in the best shape of my life" said Vargas. In fact one of his paid sparring partner, couldn't take the punishment Vargas was giving him and he quit. The guy left even without getting paid. "He told me to keep your money, I just want to get out of here because Vargas 'hits too hard' said Rolando Arellano, one of Vargas' advisors.
Vargas sends a message to Trinidad and all Puerto Ricans: "I want to show Félix "Tito" Trinidad and all "Puertorriqueños" that this Mexican comes to fight. Mexican have a lot of pride and I'm not coming to run.", strongly said by Vargas. " Real Mexicans enters the ring ready to fight and on Dec. 2nd, it will be Mexican independence day for our people". It's clear that Felix Trinidad has an edge in experience with 38 fights as a pro with 31 KOs and is considered by many as one of the best in boxing pound-for-pound. But, Vargas insists that doesn't mean anything because he has fought others with similar experience and beat them. "I fought Yory Boy Campas, Ike Quartey and Raúl Márquez. Those fighters have more experience than me and I beat them all when everyone was saying that I was going to lose." This fight has all the makings of being the fight of the year as both fighters are in the prime of their boxing careers. Tito Trinidad claims that he will knock out his opponent and Vargas is saying the same but he's also saying that he's ready to go 12 rounds, "I'm ready to go 12 rounds if necessary, but I feel I could knock him out. I don't want to leave it to the judges.
