Vargas claims he will put a "whupping" on Trinidad.

November 28, 2000 -- El "Feroz" Fernando Vargas is angry, anxious and ready to give Felix Trinidad a "whupping" and put an end to all the trash talking and will bring back pride to the Mexican community.

"Nobody has ever heard him (trash) talk before," Vargas said. "Why is he talking now? He knows the end is near. The only reason he is opening his mouth is to try to convince himself. He knows this kid is coming here to put a whupping on him."

Vargas is angry for the way Trinidad has trashed him to the media, calling him a "boy" and saying that this fight will be "easier than the David Reid fight".

But, Vargas is for real and vows not to run like the other Mexican did (referring to De La Hoya) when he takes on Trinidad. Also, according to his trainers and advisors, Vargas is in the best shape of his career.

"Fernando is in the best shape of his life," said Vargas' strength and conditioning coach. "If you compare him to his preparation for the Ike Quartey fight, he is in better shape by at least 10 percent."

Philbin, Vargas trainer, is a world-renowned strength and conditioning coach who has spent the last 12 weeks in the Vargas compound training him and making changes in the IBF champ's routine.

"We used high intensity strength training and internal training as well as anaerobic training," Philbin said. "We are also trying to train and harness the energy for use specifically in the ring."

The intensive training and the "secret weapon" he calls his trainer has given Vargas added confidence that he will be victorious on Saturday, "I can't wait to get in the ring with Trinidad on December 2 and show him and the world the new and improved Fernando Vargas."
