Cincinnati Reds will retire Tony Perez's jersey number 24.

New Baseball Hall of Famer Tony Perez, the first baseman on Cincinnati's "Big Red Machine" of the 1970s, will have his No. 24 jersey retired.

That is the same number that new acquisition Ken Griffey Jr. wore in his years
with the Seattle Mariners. But Griffey, acquired February 10, said he will wear the
same number as his father, 30.

The elder Griffey, Cincinnati's hitting coach, will switch to No. 33.

The jersey retirement ceremony will come prior to the Reds' game May 27
against the Florida Marlins.

Perez will be inducted into the Hall of Fame on July 23. The retirement of his number will be the sixth in Cincinnati history, joining No. 1 Fred Hutchinson, No. 5 Johnny Bench, No. 8 Joe Morgan, No. 18 Ted Kluszewski and No. 20 Frank Robinson.
