Garcia wants people to stop calling him "El Niño" Teenage
Golf pro, Sergio Garcia from Spain, says he wants people to stop calling him
"El Niño".
Garcia who started playing golf at the age of three and had
become club champion in Spain by the age of 12, made a remarkable impact in his first season as a golf pro, finishing
runner-up to Tiger Woods in the U.S. PGA championship and making Europe's Ryder Cup team.
The Spanish golfer is getting tired of continually hearing himself described as "The
Kid." He would rather be known simply as Sergio from now on.
"One of my wishes this year is for my nickname to drop out of use,"
said Garcia. "I've been called 'El Niño' since I was 14. It doesn't really bother me, but wouldn't
it be more normal to call me Sergio?"
Garcia, who has his sights set on winning his first major this season, puts his
golfing success down to his passion for another less glamorous sport.
"It's partly down to fishing," Garcia revealed. "It's a way of relaxing for me and in
golf you have to learn how to relax."
