December 18, 2000 -- "The Golden Boy" Oscar De La Hoya wants another shot at the IBF/WBA. Jr. Middleweight champion Felix "Tito" Trinidad in hopes he could redeem himself for his running ways during their last match.

Felix Trinidad who recently defeated Fernando Vargas in what could be the "Fight of the Year" also defeated Oscar De La Hoya in a welterweight unification match back in September of  '99.

De La Hoya, who was leading in all the scorecards for the first eight rounds, chose to run and not fight Trinidad for the last 4.  An act which cost him his first loss of his pro career.

Now, De La Hoya (38-2) wants a rematch next year with Trinidad and will even consider moving up in weight to fight the undefeated Puerto Rican champion.

"Tito is the best pound-for-pound, best boxer in the world. I would love to fight him again and I will even move up in weight to 154. This time it will be different I will not run like I did in our first fight. I ran because I thought I had it won and, of course, because Tito hits very hard and I didn't want to get hit by him, but next time I will fight smarter." said De La Hoya.

De La Hoya, who has several legal matters unsettled, has mentioned that he wants to get back in the gym and hopes to fight sometime in February 2001.

Oscar also said it was his intention to fight take 3-4 more fights at welterweight -- win titles, then move up in weight to 154 and get a rematch with Trinidad.

"Moving up to 154 will be difficult because the weight of 147 is very easy for me to maintain, but I want to fight ("Tito") one more time.  I will like that very much." said former champion, Oscar De La Hoya.

Slim chance!

The Trinidad camp is said to have a clear-cut plan for "Tito" to move up in weight to 160 and fight William Joppy for his WBA Middleweight belt, then perhaps meet Hopkins or another contender in route for the grand finale -- Roy Jones Jr. at 168.
