Feb.25, 2000 -- At Madison Square Garden, the customary weigh-in before a fight took place with boxers Oscar De La Hoya and his opponent Darell Coley. Darell Coley easily met the 147 pound weight limit for his battle with the former Welterweight champion and threw his hand up in victory for making the weight. Oscar De La Hoya stepped on the scale and with Coley and his trainers directly behind De La Hoya, immediately yelled "He's overweight, De La Hoya didn't make the weight". Boxing officials gathered and declared that " De La Hoya just made the weight of 147". An angry Coley, feeling that boxing officials were given De La Hoya preferential treatment wanted De La Hoya to weigh-in again, but the decision stood. Coley, thereafter said "Tomorrow I'm going to knock him out, "I'm going to give De La Hoya an excuse to quit boxing". "I will test De La Hoya every way he can be tested. He's not a great puncher as a welterweight. I've knocked out 24 welterweights." This fight will be a more of a mental test for De La Hoya, than a physical one. De La Hoya always stays in great shape, but how will he react if it becomes a close fight and it's going into the later rounds. Will we see a tentative De La Hoya or will we see a the heart of a true champion? We will soon find out!
