April 17, 2008 -- Latino slugger of the
New York Yankees, Alex Rodriguez hit his 522nd career home run
against the Boston Red Sox last night to surpass
Willie McCovey and
Ted Williams for 15th place on the all-time home run list.
The historical home run came in the first inning against Boston starter
Clay Buchholz. A-Rod took a 91-mph fastball deep into left field
for career home run #522. Yankees outlasted the Boston Red Sox 15-9
Wednesday night.
"It's pretty humbling," Rodriguez said of his achievement. "I know
that I tied Williams and McCovey. It's very humbling. I'm very
flattered by that."
Next on the list for A-Rod are
hall of famers,
Jimmie Foxx (534) and
Mickey Mantle (536).
