Slugger, Albert Pujols dives into the restaurant business

September 1, 2006 -- St. Louis Cardinals' slugger, Albert Pujols is diving into an area he's never dove in before -- the restaurant business.

On August 28th, Albert and his wife, Deidre Pujols along with the Hanon Management Group opened a restaurant on West Port Plaza called Pujols 5.

The restaurant seats 500 and feature 30 plasma TVs so patrons will be able to catch any number of sporting events while they chow down.

The food which Mrs. Pujols had a big say in, offers Albert's favorite chicken dishes. It also features American- and Latin-inspired food as well as a Tony La Russa veggie burger, named for the Cardinals manager, who doesn't eat meat.

"I tasted the food, and it's really good," said the 26-year old slugger from the Dominican Republic.

While Deidre Pujols helped shape the menu, her husband provided input on the decor, donating some of his most prized possessions - or replicas of them - for display.

"This is an exciting day to me, this is great" Pujols told the opening night crowd which included teammates Jose Vizcaino, Yadier Molina and Cardinals GM Walt Jockety.
