Boxing legend, Julio Cesar Chavez "Adios" tour schedule

May 20, 2005 -- 'El Grande Campeon Mexicano,' Julio Cesar Chavez,  regarded as one of boxing's all-time greats, will be on Top Rank's eight-city 'Adios' training press tour which will begin in Las Vegas on Saturday and wind its way to Phoenix, Austin, Houston, San Antonio, San Jose, Los Angeles, San Diego and work its way to 'Adios' at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles on Saturday, May 28.

Chavez and his undefeated teenage son Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., will start it all at the Top Rank gym at 3041 Business Lane on Saturday, 1 pm.

It will be a training press tour and Chavez and Chavez will get into the ring, spar, shake out, hit some bags, then do press interviews.

Fight fans are invited to watch Chavez and Chavez in every city.

"Fans are going to be shocked when they see how fit and healthy Julio looks," said Bob Arum of Top Rank. "It's as if he drank from the fountain of youth. All of his fans will rejoice."

Chavez, who was quite a baseball player while growing up, will throw out the first baseball in several cities including major league ballparks in Phoenix, Houston and Los Angeles.

Over 8,000 tickets have been sold at the STAPLES Center for 'Adios' which will feature Chavez against Ivan Robinson of Philadelphia. Just before they get into the ring, Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. will box in a six round bout on the telecast which will be distributed by Showtime Pay Per View.
