7, 2005 -- Alex Rodriguez, third baseman for the New York Yankees and
Vladimir Guerrero, outfielder for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, may play for different Major League Baseball teams, but they are now on the same roster as Pepsi spokesmen.
Winners of the last two American League MVP awards, Guerrero in 2004 and Rodriguez in 2003, both All-Stars have signed agreements with Pepsi, the official soft drink of Major League Baseball, and will appear in two national television commercials and on Pepsi in-store materials this year. In addition, they will headline Pepsi's big summer promotion, "Go Pro," with other top athletes.
"I'm absolutely thrilled to be joining the Pepsi family this year, and look forward to working with them for many years to come," said Rodriguez. "It is an honor to be associated with such a world class brand, and a corporation with a long tradition of excellence."
"It is truly an honor to be partners with Pepsi and to join the elite list of athletes that have been, and currently are, a part of its team," said Guerrero. "I look forward to continuing to build this relationship for many years to come."
Named to eight MLB All-Star teams, Alex Rodriguez has set numerous records and established himself as one of the best players in Major League Baseball during his 11 seasons in the American League. He also is one of only three players in Major League history to compile at least 35 home runs, 100 runs and 100 RBI in seven consecutive seasons (1998-2004). In 1998 he hit 42 home runs and stole 46 bases, making him the third ever member of baseball's 40-40 Club. Rodriguez won back-to-back Gold Glove awards in 2002 and 2003 as a shortstop.
Vladimir Guerrero has made his own mark in the record books as one of only four players in MLB history to ever hit over .300, smack more than 30 home runs and drive in more than 100 runs in a single MLB season before the age of 25. Last year, his first in the American League, Guerrero led his team into the postseason and captured the MVP Award. In nine Major League seasons, he has appeared in five All-Star Games and finished among the Top 10 in MVP voting in 2000, 2002, and 2004.
"Alex Rodriguez and Vladimir Guerrero are two of the most talented and exciting players in Major League Baseball," said John Galloway, VP of sports and media, Pepsi-Cola North America. "Their popularity and broad appeal allows us to create advertising in both English and Spanish, which helps us connect with an incredibly diverse fan base."
Pepsi is the official soft drink of Major League Baseball and 16 MLB teams.
