The young, super lightweight, Cotto didn't waste time mounting his attack from the opening bell, catching Sosa with left hooks and landing devastating body shots. As early as the second round, Cotto's big left hooks bloodied Sosa's lip as he was clearly overpowered. Midway through the fourth round, Sosa, who has stood in there with world champions like Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Paul Spadafora, went down from a left hook to the jaw. Sosa got up at the count of seven, but it wasn't long before he was dropped by a left-right-left combination. He got up again, but was shaky as the action resumed and Cotto landed a flurry to put him down for a final time at 2:51 of the round. Cotto, 23, made it 14 knockouts in his last 15 bouts. "He's a really good fighter,'' Sosa said. "He's got a real good chance of being a world champion." After the match when asked about a possible fights with Kostya Tszyu or Floyd Mayweather Jr., Cotto declared, "I'll fight anyone. As long as you train right, you should have no problem with any of those." On the main bout, Erik Morales defeated Jesus Chavez to win the WBC 130-pound title. Morales became only the second Mexican to win titles in three weight classes, joining the legendary Julio Cesar Chavez. |
