Mayorga-Mosley match in 2004 looks promising.

Written by Ozzie Gonzalez, Latinosportslegends.com

December 3, 2003 -- With talks between a third rematch between Oscar De La Hoya and WBC/WBA jr. middleweight champion, Shane Mosley at a standstill, Mosley and his  promoter Gary Shaw have turned their attention to the next hottest name within reach -- Ricardo "El Matador" Mayorga.

Mayorga (26-3-1, 23 knockouts), who has to get by Cory Spinks on December 13th in Atlantic City, will see his biggest payday to date if he fights Mosley sometime in March/April 2004 as currently being planned.

"This would be a great fight," Shaw said. "Negotiations are going on between myself and Don King."

Mayorga who is a beer-drinking, cigarette smoking slugger who fights coming straight forward says that he would welcome a fight against Mosley or De La Hoya, adding that "I know I can beat both of them."

A fight between Mosley and Mayorga would set up an interesting scenario. Mayorga beat former welterweight champion Vernon Forrest twice. Forrest handed Mosley his only two professional defeats. If Mayorga could defeat Mosley, then the mostly likely scenario is a blockbuster match with the Golden Boy, Oscar De La Hoya.

Should Mosley handle Mayorga, Shaw is looking at a third fight also with De La Hoya or a bout against Fernando Vargas.

Note: Ricardo Mayorga recently sent Oscar De La Hoya two balls via Fed Ex. When asked during a teleconference with the press, Mayorga was asked why he disliked De La Hoya so much.

Here is his response: "He doesn’t want to fight me, he knows I would beat him and he is afraid of me. Maybe if he beats Shane in a third fight he’ll have the guts to face me. I don’t like De La Hoya one bit. I’d like to put my hands on him, he is too conceded, and he is not humble at all."
