Camacho, 40, out-punched and wore down Villareal, who did not come out for the ninth round of the scheduled 10-round super middleweight fight. The crowd which was pro-Camacho, didn't leave disappointed as Camacho dominated Villareal throughout the entire fight to earn his 76th career victory. Villareal (15-16-1), from Ecuador, was a last minute replacement and didn't seem awed by the presence of the former champion and future Hall of Famer and came to fight. Both fighters managed to land in the opening stanza, although it was Camacho who was in control and pressing the action. By the third round Villareal was bleeding from his nose, but seemed to be enjoying himself as he waved Camacho on, who obliged by ripping-in with some terrible body shots. These seemed to take the steam out of the Ecuadorian who went into survival mode, and although he still threw the occasional punch he let Camacho have his way with him and absorbed some heavy blows to the head. Villareal continued to absorb shots in the middle rounds as Camacho led with straight lefts or right jabs to the head. This was the pattern of the fight until the eighth round when Camacho began to fight with greater urgency, Notes:
IBF junior-middleweight champion Ronald ''Winky'' Wright worked Saturday night's show for Sunshine Network. Wright, who was an analyst
for Sunshine's coverage, met Hector ''Macho'' Camacho in the dressing room after Camacho's victory over Otilio
Villareal. |
