Don Felix, Tito sign contract to fight William Joppy -- Date remains uncertain.

February 20, 2001 -- After several days of negotiations, Don Felix, trainer and manager of IBF Jr. Middleweight Champion, Felix "Tito" Trinidad signed on the dotted line to assure a title match with Tito and WBA Middleweight Champion William Joppy (32-1-1).

The date though remains uncertain.

Managers and promoters of  the match are still negotiating with Madison Square Garden (MSG) in New York and Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.  The probable dates are May 5th or 12th.

Both camps were leaning towards a May 5th date at Mandalay Bay because MSG said it will have hockey or basketball championship games during those days.

The Trinidad's are favoring MSG because of the huge Puerto Rican influence in New York and the shorter trip from Puerto Rico. MSG are trying to accommodate them.

Don Felix, signed the contract when he reunited with promoter Don King in his Florida office over the weekend.

The actual date and location of the Joppy - Trinidad fight should be announced in the next few weeks and the winner of this battle could face the winner of the Benard Hopkins - Keith Holmes fight which takes place on April 14.
